Jai Ganesha Bhakthi
Samithi
Celebrating the divine spirit of Lord Ganesha while protecting our planet โ one clay idol at a time.
Who We Are
A grassroots eco-cultural organization rooted in devotion and environmental responsibility
Jai Ganesha Bhakthi Samithi
Jai Ganesha Bhakthi Samithi (JGBS) is a dedicated eco-cultural organization based in India, working tirelessly to revive the ancient tradition of using natural clay (Matti) idols of Lord Ganesha during the sacred festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Founded with the motto "Save Environment, Save Nature", our organization unites thousands of devotees, volunteers, and community leaders across all over India to spread awareness about the environmental impact of plaster-of-paris (PoP) idols and to actively promote the switch to eco-friendly clay idols.
We believe that true devotion to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, includes being responsible stewards of the Earth He blesses. Our celebrations honour both the divine and the natural world.
What We Stand For
Every decision we make is guided by faith, community, and care for our planet
Protect the Environment
We campaign against chemical-laden PoP idols that pollute our rivers and lakes. Natural clay dissolves harmlessly, enriching water bodies.
Revive Ancient Tradition
Clay Ganesha idols are the original tradition. Ancient scriptures mandate clay idols for worship โ we bring back this pure, sacred practice.
Empower Communities
We connect volunteers, local artisans, and devotees to create a unified green movement that spans every corner of India.
Spread Awareness
Through events, social media campaigns, and door-to-door outreach, we educate communities about eco-friendly celebrations.
Support Local Artisans
By promoting clay idols, we uplift local potters and sculptors whose livelihoods depend on this centuries-old craft.
Clean Water Bodies
We actively work to ensure our rivers, ponds, and lakes remain clean by eliminating toxic immersion practices festival after festival.
Why Choose Clay Idols?
Understanding the science and the tradition behind the eco-friendly choice
Clay (Matti) Idols
- Made from natural, locally-sourced clay
- Dissolves completely in water within minutes
- No harmful chemicals or paint toxins
- Enriches soil and water naturally
- Supports local artisans and rural economy
- Mandated by ancient Hindu scriptures
- Biodegradable โ zero waste generated
- Safe for fish, birds, and all aquatic life
Plaster of Paris (PoP) Idols
- Made from gypsum, a non-biodegradable mineral
- Does NOT dissolve in water โ causes sediment buildup
- Chemical paints release heavy metals (lead, mercury)
- Kills aquatic life and disrupts ecosystems
- Raises water pH, making it toxic for years
- No scriptural basis โ a recent commercial practice
- Generates massive non-decomposable waste
- Banned in several Indian states and cities
Kills Aquatic Life
PoP idol chemicals cause mass fish deaths and destroy biodiversity in Indian water bodies every year.
Pollutes Drinking Water
Heavy metals from chemical paints seep into groundwater, endangering millions of people's health.
Destroys Ecosystems
Undissolved PoP blocks sunlight into water bodies, killing aquatic plants and disrupting entire food chains.
